I went to Miami this year for their world famous memorial day festivities. Memorial day is a national American holiday where men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces are remembered. Every year in the last week of May, urban music fans worldwide flock to Miami for 4 days of gorgeous sunshine, partying and an epic music festival.
Miami is home to some of the best nightclubs in the world and is a regular party spot for the biggest stars in the game. We attended one party where Fabolous was present and another kne where Trey Songz and Mavado were there. The partying started on Thursday May 24th 2012 and ended with the amazing Best Of The Best festival on Sunday May 27th 2012.
Best of the Best is one of the largest international music festivals in North America today, with a history of attendance averaging 25-30k people and still growing. This festival is unique because it is focused on Dancehall, Reggae, Soca and all the music that comes out of the Caribbean diaspora. Also this is a festival where high profile Dancehall artists and rappers alike share the same stage.
The amazing line-up included Marcia Griffiths, Demarco, Shaggy, Mr Vegas, Fabolous, French Montana, Meek Mill, Ace Hood and much more. The festival was headlined by the world’s leading Dancehall artist, Mavado and he didn’t disappoint! Mavado performed his large catalouge of hits with high-octane energy and confidence. He also assured his fans that he won’t be changing his music now he is signed to DJ Khaled’s & Birdman’s record label.
This festival is immensley popular with Caribbean’s due to it’s varied line-up and is attended by people from Jamaica,Trinidad & Tobago, Haiti, Barbados and Antigua. There was a true carnival vibe with flags flying everywhere and lots of tasty Jamaican food available! If you’re a fan of Dancehall, reggae or hip-hop, you must attend this festival in your lifetime!
